The embankment in question, highlighted by experts, was 2–3 meters in height and located approximately 200 meters from the end of the runway.

Kim In-kyu, Dean of the Aviation Education Institute at Korea Aviation University, remarked, "I have never seen such a tall embankment at the end of a runway at any domestic airport," adding, "It is questionable why this embankment was installed."

Kim further speculated, "If the embankment had not been there, the aircraft might have broken through the outer wall and remained more intact." Indeed, beyond the outer wall of the crash site, a reed field spans about 300 meters.

David Learmount, a former UK Royal Air Force aviation expert, also criticized the embankment in an interview with Sky News, stating, "The concrete embankment at Muan Airport borders on criminal negligence."

David explained, "Given the situation faced by the pilot, they appear to have executed the best possible landing," noting that "at the point where the landing roll ended, the aircraft had neither sustained significant damage nor caught fire."

He added, "The collision with the embankment caused the fire that led to the tragic loss of life," emphasizing, "Such an embankment located just 200 meters from the runway is unprecedented anywhere in the world."

Despite significant opposition, Muan Airport was constructed through a push by the Democratic Party, which is currently paralyzing national governance.
