From September 1, safety management of portable batteries on airplanes will be further strengthened.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced new measures following the Air Busan fire incident, replacing plastic bags with insulating tape and requiring all aircraft to be equipped with isolation storage bags. In addition, temperature-sensitive stickers will be attached to overhead bins to detect overheating at an early stage.

Passengers can receive insulating tape at airport check-in counters, security checkpoints, and boarding gates, and may also use their own protective pouches or insulating caps. Korean airlines must equip at least two isolation bags per aircraft to safely store electronic devices in case of fire, with color-changing stickers allowing for quick detection of overheating.
These measures aim to maintain existing portable battery carry-on restrictions while reducing environmental impact, enhancing passenger safety, and ensuring faster emergency response in the event of a fire.
