Seoul has experienced its first heat wave and tropical night of the year simultaneously.

On the 30th, the Korea Meteorological Administration issued a heatwave warning for all of Seoul, marking the first heatwave warning 11 days later than last year. The previous night, the lowest temperature was recorded at 25.6°C, marking the first tropical night of the year.
Seoul has now experienced tropical nights in June for four consecutive years, establishing it as a "new normal" for summer climate.

This heatwave is caused by the expansion of the Pacific High pressure system, which pushed the monsoon front northward.
With the absence of monsoon rains, hot and humid air has built up, leading to a vicious cycle of extreme heat during the day and tropical nights at night. There are no monsoon rains expected until the end of next week, so the heat is expected to intensify, with some southern areas possibly nearing 40°C.
