Suraksan

Located on the border between northern Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, Mount Suraksan has become one of the city’s trending weekend hiking destinations, thanks to the newly renovated Gicha Rock Observatory and its open rest area.

Suraksan 1

Standing at a modest 638 meters, Suraksan offers a compact yet rewarding hiking experience that combines rocky ridges, forest trails, and tranquil temples. The new 84-square-meter observatory provides panoramic views — Unaksan and Bukhansan to the north, and Bulamsan with Seoul’s skyline to the south. Safety ropes and a scenic rest area now allow visitors to pause and enjoy the scenery comfortably.

Midway up the mountain lies Seoklimsa, a temple cherished for its serene forest path that soothes both body and mind. The gentle sound of water flowing through the valley accompanies hikers throughout the trail, creating a sense of peace. The rocky ridge section offers a mild thrill, making it a favorite among beginners as well — though proper hiking shoes are strongly recommended, especially after rain.

Suraksan 3

Suraksan is open year-round with no entrance fee, offering hikers sweeping views, peaceful temple stops, and forest paths — all within a compact three-hour journey that promises both adventure and relaxation.
