The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) will celebrate its 30th anniversary with the largest edition in its history.

Starting on September 17, the festival will screen a total of 328 films, with Park Chan-wook’s No Choice chosen as the opening film. Starring Lee Byung-hun, the film has also been invited to the competition section of the Venice International Film Festival, drawing international attention.
This year, BIFF will transition from a non-competitive format to a competitive festival by introducing the “Busan Awards,” which will honor 14 major Asian films with prizes including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor.
The closing ceremony will be hosted by actress Claudia Kim (Soo-hyun). The lineup of international guests will be the largest ever, featuring world-renowned figures such as Jafar Panahi, Sean Baker, Guillermo del Toro, Michael Mann, Juliette Binoche, and Marco Bellocchio.
Special programs, including the “Icon” section, will also be significantly expanded, featuring Q&A sessions with audiences, screenings of films recommended by notable figures, and selections curated by female directors.
Festival organizers stated, “We hope the 30th anniversary of BIFF will serve as an opportunity for Korean cinema to overcome its crisis and leap forward once again.”
