6,500 Police Officers Deployed for BTS Gwanghwamun Concert: High-Intensity Security Measures

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced comprehensive safety measures for the BTS comeback concert at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21st.

To manage an expected crowd of up to 260,000, approximately 6,500 officers and 5,400 pieces of equipment, including high-altitude observation vehicles and lighting trucks, will be mobilized. Police will implement a "stadium-style crowd management system," where entry to viewing areas is restricted solely through 31 designated gates to prevent overcrowding.

Due to heightening international tensions, walk-through metal detectors will be installed at every gate to screen for dangerous items.

Security checks will commence at 7 a.m. on the day of the event, and handheld scanners will be used for those already present inside the perimeter. Barriers and police buses will also be stationed on surrounding roads to prevent potential vehicle-ramming attacks.

To prevent fans from attempting to view the concert from unsafe heights, 31 nearby buildings—including the KT Gwanghwamun Building and Kyobo Life Building—will be placed under strict control.

Six buildings directly adjacent to the square will close their entrances entirely, while others will restrict access to rooftops and balconies. Following the event, police units will be pre-deployed to popular nightlife districts like Itaewon and Seongsu-dong, anticipating a secondary surge of fans moving to those areas.
