A total ban on the use of power banks will be implemented across all 11 domestic airlines in South Korea, including Korean Air and Asiana Airlines.

This measure is a robust safety response to recent incidents of power bank fires and smoke emissions occurring in-flight. Under the new policy, passengers are prohibited from charging the power banks themselves or using them to charge electronic devices, such as smartphones, while on board.

While carrying power banks onto the aircraft remains permitted, storage requirements have become more stringent.
Terminals must be insulated with electrical tape or placed in individual pouches. Furthermore, they must be kept in visible locations, such as the seatback pocket, where they can be easily monitored by flight attendants and other passengers.

This trend is expanding beyond South Korea to global carriers like Lufthansa and Emirates. Japan is also set to introduce a similar ban for flights departing from its territory starting this April.

The aviation industry emphasized that these measures are essential for safety and requested passenger cooperation while reviewing plans to expand in-flight wired charging infrastructure.
International travelers planning a trip to Korea are advised to fully charge their devices before boarding or to verify in advance whether in-flight wired charging is available.

Since switching all my work online after the pandemic, I fly much less often. I usually spend flight time sleeping anyway, so the ban isn't a major issue for me. However, the thought of a single small battery being capable of burning down an entire aircraft is truly terrifying.😨
What’s more, I’ve heard that violating these rules can result in a fine of up to 20 million KRW (approx. $15,000).
The idea that a single mistake could wipe out your entire travel budget is horrifying to imagine😱
We at ONLINE-KOREA handle buying agent and export services, and we never engage in activities that violate the law under any circumstances.
We know that a single error can lead to losing everything.
I sincerely hope everyone follows the rules closely to avoid any unnecessary losses😀❗
