CU, a major convenience store chain in Korea, announced on the 29th that it has launched ultra-affordable chicken products to help consumers enjoy samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) during the summer despite rising prices.

The two new items are “Ddeuktem Chicken Breast for Baeksuk” (₩1,900) and “Ddeuktem Whole Chicken Leg for Baeksuk” (₩3,500), both in single-serving portions.

According to Korea Price Information, the cost of making one serving of samgyetang at home has risen by 12% year-on-year to ₩9,000. Meanwhile, the average price of one bowl at a restaurant last month was ₩17,654, up 4.6% from a year earlier.
