Jeju Island announced on the 22nd that it will offer financial support for Japanese nationals without passports to encourage them to travel abroad and boost the Osaka–Jeju direct flight route.

With Japan’s passport ownership rate declining from 24% in 2019 to 17% in 2023, the island aims to attract those interested in international travel but hesitant due to the lack of a passport.
Travelers aged 12 and over who purchase a direct flight package to Jeju and newly obtain a passport will receive a subsidy of approximately 10,000 yen.
To promote this initiative, Jeju will install large advertisements inside Umeda Station on Osaka’s Midosuji subway line—used by approximately 2 million people daily—promoting the direct route and passport support benefits from April to September.
