It has been confirmed that the flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) of the Jeju Air accident aircraft did not save data for approximately four minutes just before the crash.

The Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Committee (ARAIC) announced on the 11th, "Both the FDR and CVR stopped recording in the last four minutes before the aircraft collided with the localizer."

The missing data spans from 8:59 a.m., when the pilot issued a Mayday signal due to a bird strike, until the collision at 9:03 a.m. The committee is currently investigating the cause of the recording cessation.

The black box of an aircraft comprises the FDR and CVR. The FDR records the flight path and operational status of key systems, providing information such as altitude, speed, and landing gear operation.

The CVR stores communications between the pilot and air traffic control, cockpit conversations, and various warning and operational sounds within the aircraft.

The black box of the Boeing 737-800 involved in the accident can store up to 25 hours of data on the FDR and 2 hours on the CVR.

The ARAIC extracted the CVR data at the Gimpo Airport Testing and Analysis Center, converting it into audio files by January 2 and completing the recording log by January 4. Due to damaged connection lines, the FDR was sent to the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), where data extraction and analysis took place from January 7 to 11, with two investigators from the ARAIC present.

An ARAIC official stated, "We plan to provide information to victims and their families through public hearings and other procedures, within the scope of what can be disclosed, and will do our utmost to conduct a fair and transparent investigation."
