It has been reported that the demand for overseas travel has surged compared to last year due to the Lunar New Year holiday being extended to six days, thanks to the designation of a temporary public holiday.

According to the travel industry on the 15th, overseas flight reservations for this year’s Lunar New Year holiday (January 25-30) have more than doubled compared to the same holiday period last year (February 9-12).

Looking at the increase rates, Southeast Asia saw a fourfold increase, Japan a 1.5-fold increase, and other regions experienced an average increase of 1 to 1.5 times.

The demand for package tours also increased due to the extended holiday period, with "Japan" and "Vietnam" having the highest share, although demand for long-haul destinations such as Europe also grew.

This trend is similar across other travel agencies.

As this year’s Lunar New Year allows for up to nine days of vacation with just one additional paid leave day, the popularity of long-haul destinations, especially in Europe, has risen.

The industry anticipates further increases in new bookings as there is still time before the Lunar New Year holiday.
