[🇺🇸] “No other choice” Attracts 330,000 Moviegoers on Opening Day, Tops Box Office

The Busan International Film Festival’s opening film No other choice (directed by Park Chan-wook) drew 330,000 viewers on its first day of general release, immediately claiming the No. 1 spot at the box office.

According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated database, the film, released on September 24, recorded 331,518 viewers on its opening day — the highest-ever opening score for a Park Chan-wook film. It surpassed his previous hit Decision to Leave (114,589), as well as his biggest box-office successes The Handmaiden (290,024) and Lady Vengeance (279,413).

Notably, No other choice also outperformed the opening scores of the mega-hits Exhuma (330,118) and Seoul Spring (203,813), suggesting a strong box-office run in the coming weeks.

The film No other choice tells the story of Mansu (played by Lee Byung-hun), an office worker who once felt he had “achieved it all” in life. Suddenly laid off, he is forced to fight his own personal battle — to protect his wife and two children, to hold on to the home he worked so hard to secure, and to find a way back into employment.
