The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced the launch of its first “community-connected autonomous bus” service in Dongjak District, starting June 30.

Autonomous Village Bus

The self-driving electric bus will run a 1.62 km round-trip route connecting Soongsil University’s main gate, Soongsil Univ. Station, and Chung-Ang University’s back gate. This service aims to improve mobility in areas underserved by public transportation. It operates on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., every 20–25 minutes, stopping at 8 designated bus stops.

The bus is a converted County Electric vehicle, and the service is directly managed by Dongjak District. Rides are currently free, with plans to introduce fares starting in the first half of 2026.

Additional autonomous bus routes are expected to launch in Dongdaemun and Seodaemun Districts this September, with further expansion planned.
